Integratron Visitor Information

The closest towns are Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley, about twenty minutes away, with restaurants, shopping centers, and motels. Call the Yucca Valley Chamber of Commerce at 760/365-0763 or follow the link below to the Joshua Tree Chamber for info about local amenities. Other nearby towns along the route from the airports are Desert Hot Springs and Palm Springs, about 45 minutes away.

If you come to visit the Integratron, you will certainly want to visit the Giant Rock area, including Crystal Hill, and Van Tassel's airstrip. These are in the badlands near the Dome, and can be reached in ten minutes by car. All roads are sandy dirt, so passenger cars should keep to the beaten track, and stay off the airstrip if it is muddy.

If you have time, visit Joshua Tree National Park, with its otherworldly scenery and world-famous rock-climbing. Campgrounds and backcountry camping are available. The main entrance to the park is a ten minute drive from the town of Joshua Tree. Take 29 Palms Highway (Route 62) to the center of Joshua Tree, then turn south at the light at Park Boulevard.

Be sure to stop at Coyote Corner, located on the corner of Park Blvd. and 29 Palms Highway for great gifts, camping equipment, climbing and camping maps, and souvenirs.

For delicious food, special coffees, gallery art, and relaxed Joshua Tree atmosphere, try Crossroads Cafe, one block from Coyote Corner, next to Windwalkers (a fantastic gift shop with large pottery, jewelry by local artisans, and unique gifts for the home).

To rent everything you need for a camping trip, stop by Joshua Tree Outfitters (760-366-1848), two doors down from Crossroads on 29 Palms Highway.

There are great thrift stores in Joshua Tree - the High Desert Medical Center Thrift is on the corner of Park Boulevard and 29 Palms Hwy., and the Hospice Thrift is next to Joshua Tree Health Foods on 29 Palms Highway in downtown Joshua Tree.

If you're staying in the Palm Springs area, the aerial tramway in Palm Springs and the Living Desert in Palm Desert are very enjoyable.
